In Memoriam of Me

I am enamored with how bodily neon light is. It is an analog form of light where you apply a current of electricity into a sealed tube of gas which ionizes and emits colored light. I experimented with the structure of glass to become three-dimensional and now I was wondering how can a neon sculpture also hold an image? This led me to sew thin mesh screens onto my neon, allowing me to project inside of my neon structures.

In Memoriam of Me is made up of a free-standing krypton tombstone with a projected video compilation of camcorder footage captured one month leading up to a nearly fatal car accident I was in. When projecting through the mesh screen, an “after-image” is produced behind the sculpture, falling onto the gallery wall behind it that is 5 feet and 4 inches tall: my height. A tombstone is a final resting rest for the physical body, but the “after-image” may resemble a soul leaving the body, or a portal into the after life.
